MoMA Exhibitions & Sneak Peek at Tim Burton Exhibition!

We finally made it to MoMA this week to see "Looking at Music: Side 2" before it closes at the end of the month. I was also interested in seeing the "Bauhaus 1919-1933: Workshops for Modernity" exhibit as many of the items had never been exhibited in the US before.

The "Looking at Music: Side 2" exhibit was quite fun as many of my old friends and haunts were featured! Crazy video selections with shows at Max's Kansas City, "Glen O'Brien's TV Party" and others. It focused on the music scene in the '70's and '80's and how the artistic and musical aspirations came together during a time that I can say with certainty was filled with pure energy. So much was going on, and in many cases it was all interconnected -- art, film, music, and literary aspirations -- and often came together under one roof. Making for one hell of a party!

Here are a few shots I was able to get:

Issue One of Punk magazine.

Tish and Snooky Bellomo (of Manic Panic fame) with Andy Shernoff on Glen O'Brien's TV Party

The Dead Boys

Invite for the Pyramid Club featuring "3 Teens Kill 4"

Debbie Harry at Max's

Johnny Thunders with the Heartbreakers at Max's

Unfortunately no photography allowed at the Bauhaus exhibit ): But one thing that blew me away was that the Punk Glam Princess recognized many paintings by sight! In first grade they studied Kandinsky, and did a painting in his style. In third grade they studied Klee, and we even went with class to the Met to see "Number 5". What got her so excited was that she saw the original painting of one they recreated in class! It was quite lovely to see art come together for her like that.

We also got a little treat of a preview of some of the Tim Burton exhibition which begins on the 22nd. (18th if you're a member!)

Punk Glam Princess in front of the massive "Balloon Boy" by Tim Burton. He was so big I cut his poor head off!

The start of the Tim Burton exhibition. We think he looks like "Oogie Boogie".

We'll be attending the opening day of the Tim Burton exhibition next week as we're members, and are geared up with excitement!

Lastly I'll leave you with a video of the original lineup of the Heartbreakers (Richard Hell on bass and totally competing for lead with Johnny -- thank goodness JT booted him so he could form the Voidoids!), featuring "Going Steady", "Chinese Rocks", and my absolute fav "Pirate Love". This is a really rough recording at CBGB in 1975. Johnny still has his long NY Dolls hair!

Here's a little bit of "shoulda" for you... when we were watching the Max's video my husband said to me "I guess I should have bought Johnny's bike". He wasn't around in NY until later and not into the same music (I say his musical tastes have only improved by being with me, and I'm right dammit.) So he was only vaguely familiar with Johnny. The bike was left at his friend's bike shop and they offered it to my husband. It was a Triumph that was kind of chopped, with a cowhide seat. Since Johnny died after we were married, I have no clue why I didn't make my husband buy it!

Cheers!

Christopher Walken Performs Poker Face

Christopher Walken cracks me up, honestly I wish he'd do more comedy!

One of my fav SNL skits:

And if you've never seen "Puss n Boots" you're in for a treat (although it isn't supposed to be a comedy!)

Cheers!

Go Fashion Bloggers, Go!

Edited by Debutante Clothing

As more and more print magazines fold, bloggers seem to be growing in professionalism and media legitimacy. When bloggers such as Previously Owned and kaKofonie Of si(gh)lenS can get the scoop on international designers, you know the fashion playing field is being leveled. If bloggers can host great giveaways like Retro Chick’s, I wonder why the FTC needs to play big brother. Fashion Pulse Daily wants to know if you even care. It seems we are becoming the pretty, little websites that could. Yay bloggers!

Ghoulish Fun

Unfortunately the zombie walk got rained out. Right when we were ready to meet it started pouring down furiously. But most of the evening it was just a slight drizzle so the little ghouls (kids) were out in force.

First our decor.

My neighbor's house.

Moving onto to the sidewalk at the corner of her house.

My house.

My neighbor.

Punk Glam Princess as a ghost bride with her best friend the vampire.

A vampire getting ready to...

Bite her victim!

Another shot of the ghostly bride.

My zombie husband (no idea why there is zombie crotch grabbing going on? Ah, I know maybe he was doing a "Thriller" imitation?) The green Mohawk totally flopped with all the rain.

The ghostly bride, and the ghost mother of the bride!

Me.

Better shot showing the neck slash and creepy green contacts!

Even though we were disappointed that the zombie walk got rained out, my husband and I decided to hit a late night showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the historic old Tarrytown Music Hall. I thought it was season appropriate to be next town over from Sleepy Hollow! Hadn't seen Rocky Horror in years so it was fun!

I hope your Halloween was ghoulishly fun!
Cheers!
