The "Looking at Music: Side 2" exhibit was quite fun as many of my old friends and haunts were featured! Crazy video selections with shows at Max's Kansas City, "Glen O'Brien's TV Party" and others. It focused on the music scene in the '70's and '80's and how the artistic and musical aspirations came together during a time that I can say with certainty was filled with pure energy. So much was going on, and in many cases it was all interconnected -- art, film, music, and literary aspirations -- and often came together under one roof. Making for one hell of a party!

Johnny Thunders with the Heartbreakers at Max'sUnfortunately no photography allowed at the Bauhaus exhibit ): But one thing that blew me away was that the Punk Glam Princess recognized many paintings by sight! In first grade they studied Kandinsky, and did a painting in his style. In third grade they studied Klee, and we even went with class to the Met to see "Number 5". What got her so excited was that she saw the original painting of one they recreated in class! It was quite lovely to see art come together for her like that.
We also got a little treat of a preview of some of the Tim Burton exhibition which begins on the 22nd. (18th if you're a member!)

The start of the Tim Burton exhibition. We think he looks like "Oogie Boogie".We'll be attending the opening day of the Tim Burton exhibition next week as we're members, and are geared up with excitement!
Lastly I'll leave you with a video of the original lineup of the Heartbreakers (Richard Hell on bass and totally competing for lead with Johnny -- thank goodness JT booted him so he could form the Voidoids!), featuring "Going Steady", "Chinese Rocks", and my absolute fav "Pirate Love". This is a really rough recording at CBGB in 1975. Johnny still has his long NY Dolls hair!
Here's a little bit of "shoulda" for you... when we were watching the Max's video my husband said to me "I guess I should have bought Johnny's bike". He wasn't around in NY until later and not into the same music (I say his musical tastes have only improved by being with me, and I'm right dammit.) So he was only vaguely familiar with Johnny. The bike was left at his friend's bike shop and they offered it to my husband. It was a Triumph that was kind of chopped, with a cowhide seat. Since Johnny died after we were married, I have no clue why I didn't make my husband buy it!
